Seasonal Varsha Ritu Basti Regimen Drive

Overview

The Department of Panchakarma conducts the Seasonal Varsha Ritu Basti Regimen Drive annually as a preventive and therapeutic healthcare initiative based on classical Ayurvedic principles. Varsha Ritu (monsoon season) is considered the period of aggravation of Vata Dosha, making it the ideal time for Basti therapy, which is regarded as the prime treatment for Vata imbalance.

This drive is organized for both healthy individuals and patients to promote preventive healthcare, restore Dosha balance, and enhance overall well-being.

Ayurvedic Perspective

As described in classical Ayurvedic texts – Charaka Samhita and Ashtanga Hridaya, Basti is considered the most effective therapy for balancing aggravated Vata Dosha, especially during Varsha Ritu. Seasonal administration helps in maintaining systemic balance and preventing disease manifestation.

Objectives of the Drive

• To promote preventive healthcare through seasonal Panchakarma interventions
• To maintain Dosha balance and enhance overall health and immunity
• To prevent seasonal and chronic diseases associated with Vata aggravation

Screening and Assessment

All participants undergo a detailed Ayurvedic evaluation prior to therapy, including:

• Prakruti Assessment – Determination of individual body constitution
• Vikruti Assessment – Identification of current Dosha imbalance
• Clinical Examination – General health evaluation and fitness for Basti
• Eligibility Screening – Based on classical indications and contraindications

Therapy is administered only after ensuring suitability and safety.

Treatment Protocol

• Basti is administered strictly as per classical Ayurvedic guidelines
• Selection of Basti type (Niruha Basti, Anuvasana Basti, or regimen schedule) is individualized
• Procedures are conducted by trained Panchakarma specialists
• Proper Purva Karma (pre-procedures), Pradhana Karma (main procedure), and Paschat Karma (post-care) are followed
