Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS)

The Government of Karnataka established the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences under the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences Act, 1994, as it was considered necessary to establish and incorporate a university to ensure proper and systematic education, teaching, training and research in modern medicine and the Indian systems of medicine in the State of Karnataka. The University came into being on 1 June 1996, and about 210 health science colleges that were until then affiliated to the other conventional universities of Karnataka were brought under the newly established Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.

With more than 700 affiliated medical, dental, Ayurveda, Homoeopathy, Naturopathy and Yoga, Unani, pharmacy, nursing, physiotherapy and other allied health science colleges spread across Karnataka, RGUHS is known as the largest health sciences university in the country.
